Our Mission

California’s North Coast is an awe-inspiring place.  Towering redwoods, rocky, wild coastlines, deep cultural roots and rugged history can all be found here.  Since 1976 the North Coast Redwood Interpretive Association has been dedicated to providing quality interpretive and educational experiences for the people visiting the many matchless and amazing parks we sponsor.  Even with the state of the economy and the continued slashing of California’s park budget, in 2009 we were able to provide over $104,000 in aid to California State Parks!   It is more important than ever for people like you to help us further our goal of expanding and improving the interpretive and educational programs found within California’s unique North Coast State Parks!

Thanks to your ongoing support, in 2009 we were able to accomplish just some of the following:

  • Pay for a park interpretive specialist at Patrick’s Point State Park, who in turn provided over 125 programs to over 3500 local school children as well as Junior Ranger programs, campfire programs and family fun activities.  Without this funding, there would be no educational programs at this one of a kind coastal park.  Everything from tidepools to Yurok Native American life can be found at Patrick’s Point.

  • Continued sponsorship of nature programs, hikes and kayak adventures at Tolowa Dunes State Park, a program that has been running for five years.  This spectacular park offers people the chance to experience a unique ecosystem firsthand.

  • Develop and maintain this website which provides information on the many parks we sponsor, upcoming events and an e-store for further generation of proceeds.

  • Continued development of a Living History program at Fort Humboldt State Historic Park helping to educate local school children on the fascinating, adventuresome and often times harsh history that occurred in and around their own neighborhood. In 2009, over 600 local elementary school children benefitted from this expanding program.

Since 2004, the North Coast Redwood Interpretive Association has seen an annual growth of 8% a year, even during the recent recession!  It goes to show that people LIKE YOU care about what is happening in your parks!

With your ongoing support, we pledge to continue to strive to bring visitors to our parks and members of our local community quality, thought provoking and inspiring programs, as well as the support needed to carry them out.
